The Admissions Process:
An Overview
1. Discover Covenant
We are delighted that you want to learn more about the joyful calling of classical Christian education at Covenant. We hope you have found our website to be helpful, but the best way to get to know us is to take a tour of our school in person. We want you to hear the joyful voices that echo down our Grammar School halls and to see the passion of our dialectic and rhetoric students as they wrestle with the great ideas of history. Our Admissions Director and Head of School would be pleased to meet you and answer any questions that you may have.
Please contact our Admissions Office at Admissions@DiscoverCovenant.com or 717-540-9885 ext. 555 to schedule a tour for a day and time that is convenient for your schedule. You may also request information by filling out this Contact Form.
2. Deepen Your Understanding
We want your family to fully embrace our Christ-centered classical curriculum. In order to make the most of your partnership with Covenant, it is important to understand what we do and why we do it. The following resources offer an excellent introduction to our educational philosophy and approach:
- An Introduction to Classical Education by Christopher A. Perrin
- Academics at Covenant
- Is a Classical Christian Education Right For Your Family?
3. Submit an Application
Once you are convinced that Covenant is the right choice for your family, your next step is to submit an application. Your admissions file is opened when we receive a completed application and $75 / applicant fee (maximum of $225/family). The nonrefundable application fee covers the cost of our screening process and also helps to ensure that our applicants are making a carefully considered decision. Once we receive your completed application and fee we will arrange a suitable time for academic testing and interviews.
Please Note: If you’d like to apply for the current school year, please contact our Admissions Director, Katie Broeg, at 717.540.9885 ext. 555 or Katie.Broeg@DiscoverCovenant.com.
4. Academic Testing
All students applying for entrance will take an academic readiness assessment at their grade level to help us identify academic strengths and weaknesses and assure a good fit at Covenant. Our goal is to place each child in the grade that will lead to their greatest possible flourishing at Covenant.
5. Family Partnership Interview
The parent / family interview is a vital part of the admissions process, helping you and the school to see whether Covenant is a place where your family will flourish. The partnership interview will happen after the academic testing has been completed. The interview provides a time for us to get to know one another more personally and to ask questions of one another. Mom and dad should both plan to attend the partnership interview, as well as students applying for grades 4 and up.
6. Admissions Decision
Families will be notified in writing of the admission decision, generally within one week of the Family Partnership Interview. Families who receive an offer of admission can confirm their enrollment intention by completing online enrollment, signing up for a tuition payment plan, and paying a $250 enrollment fee.
Timing
The most important thing is that you have enough time to learn about Covenant so that you can make the right choice for your family. A classical Christian education is a challenging path that leads to a beautiful place for your family. We are a joyful and friendly school community partnering together to raise children who love to learn and who love the LORD.
It is often very helpful to begin learning about Covenant in the fall of the academic year prior to the year your student hopes to attend. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible in the new year so that academic testing and partnership interviews can be completed before open enrollment begins on March 1st. Re-enrollment of current students occurs during the month of February each year. In grades with waiting lists, new family admissions will begin on March 1st. If you are applying for a grade with an open seat, then the admission decision can be made earlier. If you are interested in a grade with a waiting list, you must apply, receive an offer of admission, and pay a nonrefundable $100 deposit to be placed on the waiting list. If a spot opens up, your deposit will be put toward your enrollment fee.
If you find yourself out of step with the timeline, please contact our Admissions Director who will be happy to advise you on the best next step. While it is best to inquire and apply early, we will be happy to consider applications for open seats in the spring and summer months when possible. Covenant occasionally admits and enrolls students during the school year, too, so please inquire if you are seeking a mid-year transfer.
