FAMILIES WHO CHOOSE COVENANT: THE MEADES
When Andrew and Joy Meade first pulled their children out of public school, it was just to give them a year of screen-free learning in the COVID era. “We were introduced to the rich literature and learning present in classical education during this time, and began exploring classical schools in our area,” Joy Meade remembers.
The Meades, who both teach in Messiah University’s Department of Music, had good experiences with public schools, both in Georgia and in Pennsylvania. “We didn’t have strong opinions on schooling when our kids were little, but we hoped to contribute as a family to whichever school our children attended,” says Joy. The Meades had dear friends and good connections with teachers in their public schools, but by the time their daughter was entering 8th grade and their son was entering 4th grade, they enrolled them at Covenant.
“Covenant was attractive because it’s been established and growing for nearly 30 years, the teachers have years of experience and impressive credentials in their fields of expertise, and the curriculum is rigorous, fascinating, and integrates Christian faith and learning in tangible ways,” says Joy.
A few months into their time here, the Meades are settling in well. Their children can be heard singing in the chamber choir and treble choir, and playing in the orchestra. “We were ready to make an intentional choice on how our children would be educated. We felt strongly that our children would love classical learning!” Joy explains.
“We are deeply appreciative of our experience in public school, but our children are now loving the peaceful, ordered, tech-free, literature-filled, history-rich, and faith-filled classical curriculum at Covenant.”
