Beyond the Common Core with Dr. Chris Perrin

Many of us first begin to think more deeply about education when our own children start their journey into formal schooling. What we teach our children about the world – is one of the most important things about a culture. GK Chesterton in his memorable way stated, “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” It is therefore no surprise that education is of interest to many people.

We have all heard a lot about Common Core in the last few years. It is one of those issues that has become a lightning rod for controversy, with fervent defenders and constant critics. Whatever you feel about Common Core, it represents a major effort by many educational, political, and cultural eaters to improve education in our country. When an issue like this arises it is so helpful to find a reliable guide, someone who you know understands the history and context of the issue, and can provide an informed and wise evaluation.

Dr. Christopher Perrin, is undoubtedly such a person. Dr. Perrin has been studying educational philosophy for the last two decades. He is a sought after leader in the classical education renewal, speaking regularly at conferences, and consulting with schools across the country. He was the founding Headmaster of Covenant Christian Academy, and is now the co-founder and CEO at Classical Academic Press in Camp Hill. He serves as Vice President of the Society for Classical Learning and is also the director of the Alcuin Fellowship of classical educators.

Dr. Perrin received a B.A. in history from the University of South Carolina and a Masters in Divinity and PhD from Westminster Theological Seminary.

In addition to all of that, Dr. Perrin is a wonderful encourager and inspirer of educators. Every time Dr. Perrin speaks, the audience leaves inspired to learn more and continue the conversation. We hope you will join us on April 7, to hear Dr. Perrin’s talk, “Beyond the Common Core”. This event is sponsored by Covenant Christian Academy and will be hosted at West Shore Evangelical Free Church.
